Korean Man Sentenced to 18 Months for Assault on Burglar Robbing His Home

A man in Wonju came home to find a burglar robbing his home and proceeded to put a beat down on him that has now cost him his freedom:

A 20-year-old man is serving his jail term that he received for assaulting a 50-year-old burglar, YTN reported Friday.

Choi received an 18-month prison sentence in a trial on charges of making the thief brain dead by hitting him with a drying rack.

The thief, identified as Kim, broke into Choi’s house in Wonju, Gangwaon Province in March. Choi came home at around 3 a.m. after a drink with friends and found the thief rifling through drawers. Choi called the police and fought off the intruder.

He claimed self-defense in assaulting the 50-year-old man with the “light, aluminum” drying rack, but the court ruled against him.

The court found the drying rack was a “dangerous material” to use to defend himself against the thief who was unarmed and trying to run away.  [Korea Observer]

You can read more at the link, but the beat down he put on the burglar resulted in him going brain dead.  So the judge felt this was excessive force.  If a criminal is in your house and you surprise him how is the home owner supposed to know what this guys intent was?  This guy could have had a knife for all he knew.  When it comes to crimes like this I definitely lean towards favoring the home owner rather than the criminal.

This happens in the US in some states. If someone breaks into your house, yiu cannot, for instance, shoot him unless he has a weapon and is moving toward you. I think that is the reason for Stand Your Ground laws.

This Question:

“If a criminal is in your house and you surprise him how is the home owner supposed to know what this guys intent was? ”

hmmmm…..

What’s the difference between a American burglar and a Korean burglar when caught by the owner of the house?

The American burglar will probably will go all violent and he will try to kill the owner with a knife or with a gun.

On the other hand, the Korean burglar will apologize profusely to the owner of the house, promise never to steal again, and he will attempt to leave the house.

Even the Korean burglars and criminals are far more civilized than your savage violent average American.

It’s really no wonder why Koreans look at this as excessive force, where as the Americans think this is self defence against a vicious criminal. Two very different cultures thinking differently due to their two different cultural conditioning. The criminals in America are vicious because they’re raised in a violent crime ridden society that’s reminiscent of survival of the fittest.

Interesting story.

Tom. Be careful. That comment almost made sense and there was very little trolling in it. C-

More importantly what’s the difference between a fake-Korean and a real Korean?

The fake-Korean who usually is in another country because they’ve fled the Dae Han in order to avoid fulfilling their military duty but sometimes born abroad (possibly planned by their mom for the same aforementioned reason) will often identify as a Korean or -Korean despite not being a Korean at all. Their knowledge of Korea and her people is based off scraps found on the internet or stories from their parents/grand-parents from the days of yore. Often these miserable copies of real Koreans are quick to pull out the “foreigner card” when exposed during a trip to Korea and called upon to “act Korean”. Back in their real homeland they usually won’t STFU about Korea as an attempt to come off as a Korean. They are the most pathetic of humans.

The real Koreans… bah I’m not bothering because I really just wanted to remind Tom of the fake-ass he is.

DB Tom furthermore shows he knows f-all about America as well seeing as the majority of non-violent criminals in the USA are just as hesitant as regular people to cross into the world of violence.

I’m wondering where DBT gets off professing worldly knowledge from that troll cave in Ottawa.

All the Real Estates belong to the king or a king’s bank, you can’t just do what you want in there. It’s not yours.
