American Caught Trying to Swim to North Korea

North Korea just has a way of attracting weirdos:

A young American man has been caught trying to swim across a river border into North Korea, a government source said Wednesday.

The man was arrested by Marine sentries at around 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday while he was swimming across the Han River, which borders with North Korea, the source said.

The river cuts through the South Korean capital of Seoul and its adjacent county of Gimpo into the Yellow Sea.

During an interrogation following the arrest, the U.S. citizen of Arabic descent said “I was trying to go to North Korea in order to meet with supreme leader Kim Jong-un,” according to the source.  [Yonhap]

You can read more at the Yonhap link, but from what the Korea Herald is reporting this guy did not get very far on his swim.

An American of Arabic decent? You don’t say. What would an Arabic man want to do with North Korean connections?
I’ll be following this story with great interest.

The next question is how much soju had he consumed in the week prior to his swim?

Freaky things attract freaky people.

I see an advanced strategy here where freaky people should be ENCOURAGED to go to North Korea.

Just like Reagan prompted the collapse of the Soviet Union by deficit spending on defense, perhaps North Korea can be overrun with American prisoners which they must house and feed in exchange for non-productive hard labor.

Even if they take American career criminals and put them to work mining coal, it is a win-win for everyone. Outsourcing hard labor to North Korea is the first step to integration into the global economy.

“Americans do the jobs North Korans won’t do.”

I can see it now.
